Mahakali Shakti Peeth is situated on a hill that was formed by a volcanic eruption 500 million years ago. One of the holiest religious sites in India, it is believed Maa Sati’s foot fell here.
Pavagadh is also an important Jain pilgrimage with three groups of temples dating back to the 14th-15th centuries. The historic Champaner-Pavagadh area of almost 3280 acres is now a UNESCO world heritage site. This area consists of forts, temples and other historical structures from the 10th and 12th centuries.
