Bhadrachalam is situated on the banks of the sacred Godavari river. Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. The self appeared idol in the temple was discovered by a tribal woman, and later a temple was built by Kancherla Gopanna in the 17th century.

In the days of the Ramayana this area was a dense forest. Lord Rama, along with Sita Mata and Lakshmanji stayed here for some time. It is believed that this is the place where Sabri offered fruits to Lord Rama. Parnasala is from where Sita Mata was kidnapped by Ravana.
