Yogmaya Temple (Jogmaya Temple) is located in heart of Mehrauli, New Delhi India. Yogmaya temple in Delhi is a “Shakti Peeth”  dedicated to Goddess Yogmaya also called “Pure Goddess”.

History of Yogmaya Temple

Yogmaya temple is considered to be the temple of Lord Krishna’s sister Goddess Yogmaya who took the avatar of Vindyavasini. It is made of black stone and placed on white marble. It is said that it is among those 27 temples that were destroyed by Mahmud Ghazni and later reconstructed by Hindu king Samrat Vikramaditya Hemu. Yogmaya is considered an aspect of “Maya” – the illusionary power of God.

Yogmaya was that child who was exchanged by Vasudeva during the birth of Lord Krishna. Goddess Yogmaya was the baby girl who slipped from Kansa’s hand while he was kidnapping Devaki’s  8th child.

It is believed that the Yogmaya temple was built by Pandavas after Mahabharata.
