Auroville is a township 8 km away from Pondicherry. Shri Aurobindo Gosh and Mira Alfassa founded Auroville. French architecture designed it. The idea was to create a universal town where people from all over the world of any caste, Religion, Nationality can live here with peace and unity. The center of the town is crowned by a temple which symbolizes the universal mother and is called “Matri Mandir”.
This is the 100-year-old historic church, it is 50 m long, 48 m wide and 18 m high. Inside the church there are glass pictures of 28 saints who were related to the devotion of the sacred heart of Jesus. The building is a fine specimen of Gothic architecture and it is a pilgrimage for Christians in India. It is a Tourist spot for all tourists.
French War Memorial is dedicated to the residents of French India who died for the country during the First World War. It is a must-visit place for the tourist, it is pretty much small in area, yet an intriguing tourist destination. Visitors are usually restricted from walking into the grounds of the war memorial. The memorial is decorated and illuminated every year on Bastille Day (14 July) in honor of the soldiers.

The beach is 8 km away from Pondicherry and you can reach by boat available at Chunnambar boathouse. You can also do fishing and sailing at the beach. The Pondicherry Museum is located at Saint Louis Street. It is open on every day except Monday. The timings of the museum are from 10 AM to 5 PM. It is an art and history museum. The museum has a collection of rare bronzes and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola dynasties and artifacts excavated from Arikamedu. The Museum’s collection includes 81 Chola bronze sculptures, ranking as one of the largest collections of Chola bronzes. The museum also has a Geology room, a shell and fossil room and a collection of handicrafts, coins, church relics, and French furniture.
