Daksha felt unfair and cursed him and he lost his power of  light. Prajapita Brahma advised Moon to worship Lord Shiva at Prabhas Teerth. Lord Shiva was  Pleased with the great penance and devotion of Moon, and blessed Chandra and relieved him from the curse of darkness. Pauranic traditions describes that Moon had built a golden temple, followed by a silver temple by Ravana, Bhagvan Shree Krishna is believed to have built Somnath temple with Sandalwood. The moon God was relieved from the curse of Daksha  from Lord Somnath. The present Somnath temple is the 17th reconstruction built in 1951 on the original site.
